Kofi Annan Fellowship

for outstanding leadership potentials from developing countries

The Kofi Annan Fellowship provides the opportunity for talented and motivated students from developing countries who do not belong to a privileged class and lack sufficient financial means to study management at ESMT in Berlin and graduate with a prestigious MBA from the most international business school in Germany.

Upon return to their home countries, the fellows are expected to contribute to the strengthening of entrepreneurial capacity and the fostering of a stable market economy as an effective catalyst for their country’s development, job creation, and poverty alleviation.

What is the Kofi Annan Fellowship?

A fellowship grant for an emerging leader from a developing country for a one-year full-time MBA education in Berlin, Germany.

Purpose

To make significant contributions to least developed countries (LDCs) and landlocked developing countries (LLDCs); to strengthen the awareness for responsibility in leadership in developed countries.

Partner

ESMT in cooperation with the Kofi Annan Business School Foundation in The Hague, Netherlands.

When

Starting annually in January. Application deadline is September 30, annually. Up to three fellowships are available each year.

Financials

Value of the fellowship is € 58,000. Fellows will have a full scholarship from ESMT plus fair compensation for costs like travel, accommodation, and program-related fees.

Travel, visa, housing, insurance, placement, networking.

Requirements

Bachelor degree of any kind, a minimum of three years’ professional experience, GMAT, fluency in written and spoken English, willingness to contribute to building the economy and society of the home country with entrepreneurial impetus.

The new International Master program (Master of Science, M.Sc.) in CARTOGRAPHY is a cooperation of :

– Technische Universität München (TUM), Department of Cartography

– Technische Universität Wien (TU Wien), Research Group Cartography

– Technische Universität Dresden (TU Dresden), Institute for Cartography

The primary goal of CARTOGRAPHY Master’s Program is to educate future engineers in Cartography in combination with Geoinformatics and prepare them for a scientific or industrial career in Cartography. Students gain fundamental knowledge in analyzing and visualizing geographic data.

The unique curriculum taught by the three cooperating Universities TUM, TU Vienna and TU Dresden distinguishes CARTOGRAPHY from other master’s programs in related fields.

Tuition and enrollment fees

The TUM charges a tuition fee for the 1st semester of about 500 EUR.
The TU Vienna charges a tuition fee for the 2nd semester 363 EUR (except for EU/EEA/Swiss nationals).
For the 3rd semesterat TU Dresden, there isno tuition fee.
For the 4th semester (Master’s Thesis) there is no tuition fee.

At TUMthere is an enrollment fee of 42 EUR.
At TU Vienna student’s union fee is about 20 EUR. (+ extra 42 EUR)
At TU Dresden there is an enrollment fee of 42 EUR.

Admission Requirements:

Applications are open to candidates with an above-average Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent (from a recognized university) in engineering, natural science or a related field (e.g.: cartography, geodesy, geoinformation, informatics, geography, geosciences, etc.) If English is not your native language, nor the official language of tuition of your previous course of study, a TOEFL, an IELTS or an examination of the Cambridge main suit of English is required for non-native English speaking applicants. Journalists across the globe can apply for an International Media Studies Master’s Program in Bonn, Germany. Full scholarships will be awarded to ten applicants from Africa, Asia, Latin America or Eastern Europe. The program is sponsored by German media group Deutsche Welle, the University of Bonn and other organizations.

The four-semester, full-time program combines theory with training in practical journalism skills, and covers such topics as media and development, media economics, and communication science. The program ends with a master’s thesis and colloquium. Successful graduates receive a Master of Arts (M.A.).

Application process

Applicants are required to submit the following documents:
* completed application form
* curriculum vitae
* statement of purpose
* one passport-size photograph
* copy of your passport

Please note that the following documents (both the copies of the certificates and the translations into German or English) need to be certified. The stamp of authority that certifies the documents must be in English or German. Please refrain from sending originals. Certified copies suffice.

* proof of at least one year’s work experience in the field of media after your degree

If you are an applicant from China, Vietnam and Mongolia you need to submit original Certificate of APS.

Language certificates

Overview

International students wishing to go for a Master at the Abbe School of Photonics can apply for a scholarship, which is granted in cooperation with partners from the German Optics & Photonics industry, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the County of Thuringia.

Value of this scholarship

Scholarships include a stipend of 715 Euro per month, covering of university fees, free local transport and health insurance. In addition, a language course is reimbursed.

Scholarships are restricted to international students. For 2010/2011 a total amount of approx. 33 scholarships is available for these students.

For application please use the online application system. Additionally, please provide the following documents and upload them in .pdf format on the application extranet.

IPSWaT Scholarship

IPSWaT  is financed by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).            

Application Requirements

The program is designed only for graduate students who:

    * are interested in the master’s degree course in “Environmental Engineering” and get accepted by TUHH for this master’s degree course,

    * have a background and/or special interest in the water or wastewater sector, which they want to extend,

    * have good English skills (minimum TOEFL score for admission: 550 (paper-based) / 213 (computer-based) / 79 (internet-based) or minimum IELTS score of 6.5 respectively)

    * did not start their studies at TUHH yet.

 

The benefits of the scholarship

    * intensive German language course prior to Master’s program

Important to keep in mind

    * February 28th, 2010: closing date for applications from students wishing to start September 2009. The application has to reach TUHH until this date. Later applications cannot be considered.

    * Applications for the IPSWaT scholarship have to be submitted together with the application for admission to the master’s degree course in ”Environmental Engineering” and send together to “International Academic Programs”.

    * Applications for this scholarship program are only possible via TUHH. Direct applications to BMBF are not accepted.

    * You can only apply for IPSWaT once. If you apply via other universities as well this has to be marked on the application form. If this was not marked and it is noted later during the selection process, your application is excluded.

    * If any document required for application is missing or the application form is not filled completely, your papers are automatically excluded from the evaluation process.

    * If in consistencies/incorrect information is detected in your application during any time of the application proceedure this leads to the immediate exclusion.

DAAD Scholarship

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) – Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst – supports a range of postgraduate courses at German universities which aim at providing academically educated young professionals from Developing Countries with further specialized studies. The DAAD supports these selected programs with a certain quota of scholarships and with financial assistance for a special tutoring system. At the end of the course (programs run 12 to 36 months, depending on the particular institution) participants can obtain an internationally recognized Master’s or in some courses PhD degree.

Language of instruction:

Participants in postgraduate courses in which English is the language of instruction receive a scholarship for a two-month intensive German language course.
Participants in postgraduate courses in which German or German/English is the language of instruction receive a scholarship for a six-month intensive German language course. Please note that the candidates must have certain German language certificate at the time of application.
Criteria for applying:

Age limit: 36 years of age at the time of application (for some courses 32 years)
Degree: Bachelor or Master
GPA: min 2,75 for Master candidates and 3,00 for Doctoral candidates
Work experience: at least two years after completing Bachelor degree.

For postgraduate courses held in English request an international TOEFL (minimum score: 550 paper based, 213 computer based, 80 internet based) or IELTS (band 6). Some courses may expect a different level. For detailed information see the website of the relevant course.
